Quotable Sundays

I’m a week late to wish you Happy 2017 but I do hope that some sunshine blesses you.  Sometimes the world makes it a dirty word but being a rebel or in my case, a girl’s case, rebelle is a definition of who we are and what we stand for. Have a great week.

No Whining Wednesday

No Whining Wednesday

I never really get to catch up with my WordPress buddies on Wednesdays but I didn’t go to my Zumba class today, I opted to stay home AND work out! I am happy to report that I have busted a move (I have proof because my waist and legs are hurting from me gyrating to the music), done a light dinner and sitting down to work on my business plan for my new business.

Ping! Ping! Ping! So many notifications from WordPress and I had to see what had everyone’s attention. First, I would like to thank my friend @creativewriter for nominating me for the 3 Quotes, 3 Days Challenge. Be sure to check her out. Still working on how to insert a link so bear with me 🙂  Then going through my feed I came across @Deborah the Closet Monster’s post about a colleague who recently passed away and how she would spend her last day.

I may not check my blog every day but when I do check on Sundays (I would be ungrateful if I expect people to read my words and not reciprocate the favor) I enjoy you sharing your lives, your thoughts with me. I look forward to it and will go through my feed repeatedly to make sure that I did not neglect anyone. I may not always comment but most times I am smiling.

Thank you for being brave, for being fun, for encouraging growth, for sharing information, for supporting me on the road to being a better writer.

It was one heck of a disastrous winter and I cooked up and most certainly ate up a storm. Of course, I needed to keep warm :-/. The weather got warmer, I purchased colorful tees and sneaks to encourage me on my healthy journey.
I enjoyed daily power walks with the hubs while listening to Soca and Dancehall reggae, Zumba class once a week and for extra measure I joined the gym.

Hubby is a regular at the gym so I got a few pointers. Three days after my first class I was immobile. Couldn’t move then graduated to a shuffle. I saw my grandparents careful steps in my immediate future. Sitting down was pure torture as getting up required assistance and all the decorum I could muster.

A couple of muscle relaxants and much appreciation for the elderly, I am glad to relay that I’m doing better. It only took me two weeks. Pardon me while I get ready for my walk. No gym for this chicken for a bit.

So, Sew

So, I recently purchased a sewing machine after the stylish skirts I liked were priced out of my budget. Couldn’t be that hard or so I thought. I did weeks of research until one of my old classmates told me to check out the inexpensive offers at Target. Long story short, I bought a Singer Simple at Walmart. I’m pretty sure I didn’t thread it properly so after two days I returned it and bought a slightly newer model at Jo Ann’s.

After purchasing some material for myself, I also decided to purchase material for a skirt for my daughter – Super hero visions were floating in my head. Went through a plethora of You Tube videos and after cutting the cloth all you need to know is that the skirt turned into a pillow and this is the final product – a messenger bag complete with two pockets and buttons.

My daughter is pleased with her new messenger bag which she proudly sported today. I haven’t attempted my skirt yet but my daughter is asking about pjs so maybe that will be next. She is quite content with my efforts so I guess I will keep working as I sing ” Sew …. A needle pulling thread”

Thinking Out Loud

I wrote this some time aback and came across it while rifling through some of my papers. Thought it was worth sharing.

When he doesn’t know you as well as he claims
When you know some parts of you incite fear
When you would rather share than repress
When he should stay instead of running away
What’s a girl in love supposed to do
When she would rather it be with you than anyone else.
When she would rather you see and know the real her,
Unleashed and unabashed?
What’s a woman to do!

What used to be

Yesterday after a hard hectic day which seems to be every day recently, my stomach gently reminded me about sustenance. Okay, it grumbled!
My closest spot was my local Starbucks, not for coffee but for a sandwich. Food options on the run for a vegetarian can be slightly challenging. As I briskly walked back to my car (raining) I looked around the shopping center.

This area was once bustling with a variety of shops including a large supermarket which was the anchor store. The anchor store moved across the street to a new shopping center and rumor is it they held on to their lease. There are now three stores left and they’re all catering to the fast food crowd. Starbucks appears to be the only one busy and so we wait.

I missed the assignment from a few days back and since our photography session is coming to an end, I wanted to make sure I shared this one. This shopping center is a short walk from my job and houses retail, restaurants, a gym and a hotel. The design of the building instantly draws the viewers eyes upward and with the mish mash scents of all kinds of foods and the obligatory Starbucks, I visit this spot quite often.

Photo101:Day11:Pop of Color

Today was a wet, grey and cold day. I had a few scenarios in mind to capture my pop of color but the weather proved to be quite a challenge. I ended up with these two photos. The wet road turn signs which are often hard to see on a day such as today (unless you use your phone filters) and lip colors against a sequined, shiny back drop. Nothing like a pop of color to brighten up a grey, cold day.
